Steelers will love Christian Watson

It’s not every day that you come across a receiver with a skill set like Christian Watson. The North Dakota State wide receiver is 6’4” and 208 pounds with 32 1/2” arms and 10 1/8” hands. After some impressive tape this past season, NFL Draft analysts were interested to see how he would perform at the NFL Combine.

Watson was one of the biggest winners of the event. Despite his big frame, the gifted wide receiver set the track on fire with a 4.36 40-yard dash. He also put up astronomically good numbers in the vertical (38.5”) and broad jump (11’4”).

Grinding through some of Watson’s tape, he shares a lot of similarities with former Steelers deep threat, Martavis Bryant. It’s remarkably rare to get a 6’4” receiver who can move as well as Watson does after the catch. He can make people miss and turn on the Jets for the routine explosive play.

The Steelers have been missing a good deep threat since dealing Byrant to the Raiders, and their downfield passing game has been lacking as a result. Pittsburgh would love the idea of landing a player like Christian Watson on day two of the NFL Draft, and he would certainly help give this offense a big boost.
