Steelers mock draft: Pittsburgh finds their QB in full 2022 first-round mock

Steelers mock draft:
Like the Jets, the New York Giants also took an offensive tackle high in the draft just two years ago in Andrew Thomas (4th overall in 2020). However, the Giants could use another OT positive of him, and Ikem Ekwonu is one of the best players in this class. Ekwonu is smaller than Evan Neal, but his movement skills are remarkable and he’s a road-grading run blocker. This selection will set them up for offensive success in the future.
Surprised to see Trevor Penning this high? You shouldn’t be after his performance at the NFL Combine. Penning was already considered a first-round prospect before the 2021 season, and he only skyrocketed his status in Indianapolis — testing as a 99.6th percentile athlete at the offensive tackle position. Penning is still relatively unpolished with a lot of technique issues, but once he gets it down, he has the potential to be one of the best offensive tackles in the NFL.
Jermaine Johnson is another name you will start to see higher in NFL mock drafts. After two pedestrian years at Georgia, Johnson transferred to Florida State and put up remarkable numbers in 12 games (17.5 TFL, 11.5 sacks). Johnson rushes a bit high and is a little stiff-hipped, but he’s still got great size and is an explosive athlete. He adds a weapon to New York’s pass rush here.
The Atlanta Falcons have no shortage of draft needs, but at least they will be able to brag about their cornerback room after this NFL mock draft. Ahmad Gardner playing opposite of A.J. Terrell will be fantastic. The Falcons could start grooming a quarterback, but Gardner is a great CB prospect they will have a hard time passing on if he falls to the 8th overall pick this year.
