Steelers should sign Allen

Of the four names I have listed, Brian Allen is probably my least favorite option among these names. While he was a good fit with the Rams, he does measure in on the smaller side of things. He is only 6’1 and about 305 pounds. That said, he has been a proven technician along the interior of the line and was an asset for the Rams.

He functions well on the move and can pull in space if needed. As well, he has decent reach considering his size, as his arms are almost 32.5 inches. This means that while undersized, Allen can still be effective with his first contact along the line. Essentially, he would be a one-for-one swap with Green, except this undersized center can actually use proper technique and hold his own along the line.

There are some inherent concerns with Allen’s tape. As mentioned before, his size is far from ideal and may hold the Steelers back from signing him (especially if they want to start Green at guard). As well, he was only an effective starter for one season, meaning that he may regress on a new team. That said, he is a better option than what the team has right now.
