Steelers should sign Jensen

The premier center in this upcoming free agency class, Ryan Jensen would be a huge add if the Steelers broke the bank to sign him. He has been an effective starter since 2017 and has made a push as one of the best centers in the game over the past few seasons with the Buccaneers. He enters free agency a hot commodity and one the Steelers have to be interested in.

Known as both a capable run and pass blocker, Jensen has few flaws in his game. As well, he has the size you want in a center, as he has more than enough weight to hold his own against some of the bigger linemen in the league. While not his strongest suit, Jensen isn’t a bad athlete by any means and can work in space as well as serving as a road grading interior option.

The issue with Jensen is a combo of his age and price tag. Given his play in recent years, Jensen will likely want close to, if not the most money for a center (13 million a season). While not old for a lineman, Jensen being 31 years old makes him the elder of this group and it limits the upside a major deal would have with the center. That said, if the Steelers can land him on a reasonable length deal, Jensen would be a huge signing for a team in need of interior help.

With no clear-cut great options at center in the draft following Linderbaum’s poor testing, the Steelers would be wise to look elsewhere to find their starting center. Luckily for them, these four centers are all set to be free agents and would be logical additions to the roster. Keep these four names in mind as Pittsburgh tries to upgrade their center position in 2022.
