Steelers should sign Daniels

While the first two players are more mid-tier options that would be more affordable, James Daniels would be the next-level option that could turn the interior of this line into a strength. Taken in the second round of the 2018 draft, Daniels has progressively become one of the best young linemen in the league and should get paid well as a result.

Daniels has the perfect size to excel as a center or guard and has great reach (33.75-inch arms) to match. He can use his elite athleticism to move in space and pull as a blocker. He is essentially what anyone should want along their interior, as Daniels isn’t lacking in any one category. Add in his youth (he will be 25 this season) and Daniels represents one of the best emerging lineman prospects.

The main issue with Daniels is his position fit with the team. He has gotten his best play as a guard and not a center, meaning that the Steelers could still potentially be rolling with Green at center in 2022. That said, the team can use that position flexibility to their advantage, as the draft could determine where Daniels ultimately plays (at center or guard depending on what they draft). No matter where he plays, he would be an instant upgrade along this line.
