Steelers will focus on these 8 positions once free agency begins
Offensive guard
Guard kind of depends on what the team wishes to do with Kendrick Green. If they’re content with having him at center, then a starting guard spot needs to be filled. There are some interesting names to monitor as the free agency period gets closer. The interior of this offensive line is going to need to be fixed first before the tackles get meshed out as well.
Brandon Scherff, Washington Commanders
Brandon Scherff has been one of the most looked-over players since he joined the league. Perhaps that’s because he was in Washington, but this guard has been one of the most consistent in the NFL. The market for this player might be in high demand so the Steelers could miss out, but he would help fix this front right away.
Austin Corbett, LA Rams
Austin Corbett is another free agent that is coming off winning a Super Bowl with the Rams. His team has very limited cap space and that will lead to many players departing the team. Corbett has been a swing player across the interior of the offensive line there since he joined the team. He finally settled as a starting guard and has been a steady contributor ever since.
Laken Tomlinson, San Francisco 49ers
Laken Tomlinson found a nice home with the San Francisco 49ers as his career was brought back to life. He was drafted high by the Detroit Lions years ago, but it didn’t work out for him nor his employer during that marriage. Tomlinson is a solid starter but wouldn’t make as many impacts as a signing of Scherff or Corbett would bring with him. This is a starting guard that would be a nice fallback option if the team can’t sign the other two names.
