The Pittsburgh Steelers have many players who should be improved in 2022, but these four players don’t deserve another chance with the team next season.

Most NFL experts would agree that the Pittsburgh Steelers didn’t exactly play like a team deserving of making the playoffs in 2021. Their downfield passing game was dismal and their rushing attack was statistically the worst in the league. In addition, their defense took a big step back last year.

There’s no question that general manager Kevin Colbert has a ton of retooling to do in his final offseason. Over the past several years, he has made an effort to fix some of the ailing positions on the Steelers, but it has been to no avail. Here are four players who don’t deserve another season in Pittsburgh in 2022:

OG Trai Turner

I was fine with the Steelers taking a chance on the often-injured Trai Turner during the 2021 offseason. David DeCastro had just retired and they needed a veteran guard late in the offseason who could step in. However, my expectations were very low, as Turner was coming off a terrible season in 2020.

Unfortunately, Turner proved to be much worse than I even thought he would. He struggled to get to the second level as a run blocker and was very inconsistent in his pass sets. Because of his severe lack of functional mobility, a false step for Turner usually resulted in a defensive lineman getting to Ben Roethlisberger in a flash.

Trai Turner is now going on three years since his last respectable season, and he turns 29 years old this offseason. After watching his performance in 2021, there’s no way I would consider him deserving of a second chance in Pittsburgh.
