TE Eric Ebron

I can deal with a player who is often on the injury report as long as he offers this team something on Sundays when he is healthy. However, that description does not fit Steelers tight end, Eric Ebron. During the 2020 offseason, fans were irrationally going nuts over the signing — probably because Ebron was a former 10th overall pick with a Pro Bowl under his belt.

We all knew that Ebron was going to have issues as a blocker — this isn’t something that suddenly improves eight years into your NFL career. However, this past season, he didn’t even offer much as a receiver, and his efficiency in the passing game hit an all-time low.

In 8 games, Ebron managed just 84 yards on 18 targets. His disgustingly low 4.7 yards per target made him an option not worth targeting. In addition, rookie Pat Freiermuth quickly emerged as a better option in every situation as the team’s top tight end, and Zach Gentry was excellent as an inline blocker.

By the second half of the season, it didn’t matter to the Steelers if Ebron was healthy or not. He really didn’t have much business seeing the field at that point. There’s no way you can justify bringing him back for another year in 2022.
