3 exceedingly bold Steelers free agency predictions
James Washington Remains a free agent
This prediction may be going out on a limb. Now, that said, nothing is ordinary with the James Washington situation, and who knows how this pans out.
In training camp of the 2021 season, James Washington found himself in an odd situation. Adam Schefter broke a story that he wanted the Steelers to trade him. Then shortly after, Washington backed off, saying he was happy in Pittsburgh, and the coaches said he never asked for a trade. True or not, nothing happened.
Washington is a free agent now, and despite the turmoil from last season, he remains one so far. So far, there are not any reports that anyone has had any offers or interest in signing him unless you consider Dez Bryant an authority. Bryant is on record stating Washington would be a logical fit for Dallas as a deep field stretcher. He thinks Dallas might be able to buy low on him in free agency. You may have to take that as let him sit, and if no other offers come, they can low ball him.
Perhaps that could be the case. Of course, Dallas had to trade Amari Cooper and lost Cedrick Wilson. Michael Gallup did return, and they still have CeeDee Lamb. So another receiver could still be helpful, but they would have to come cheap.
Could Washington go to Dallas? Perhaps, but with a glut of receivers out there and the fact that JuJu is not getting any calls, there will not be a rush to sign Washington. It is a shame, in a way.
Honestly, Washington is a decent receiver, and it seems, for whatever reason, the Steelers have never fully utilized Washington to his capabilities, and that may have hurt him on the free-agent market. So if Dallas does not come calling, the Steelers would rather re-sign JuJu than Washington. So do not look for Washington to get a contract soon.
