Pros and cons of Pittsburgh Steelers signing QB Mitchell Trubisky
It seems there are three trains of thought regarding the Steelers acquisition of former Bears quarterback Mitch Trubisky on Monday.
You love the deal and think Trubisky will reach stardom in Pittsburgh; others feel the Steelers decision to acquire Trubisky was a very Rooney-like decision, take the best option at the cheapest price while leaving options open if the move doesn’t work out. Then others look at it as Trubisky is just getting what you pay for. He was a bum in Chicago and a backup in Buffalo, so don’t expect any miracles with Trubisky.
For now, people are all over the place in giving opinions of expectations from Trubisky, which is unlikely to change until training camp opens. Once we get a look at him and see him in his first preseason game as a member of the Steelers, we will have some better ideas about the direction of Trubisky’s future with the Steelers.
That said, some people out there are, apparently, already on the Trubisky bandwagon early, making myopically bold predictions. A perfect example was an article written by Ben Cooper not long after the Steelers signed Trubisky. He concluded that with Trubisky, the Steelers finish as a top 10 offense; he gets 25 plus touchdowns and leads the Steelers to the playoffs. Did he even watch Trubisky play as a member of the Bears? Pretty bold predictions for a guy that got run out of Chicago only to end up in Buffalo as a backup.
Sure, as a quarterback, he has some redeeming qualities the Steelers can use, and certainly, Mike Tomlin is a much better head coach than Matt Nagy ever will be. But before getting caught up in the hype, let’s look at the pros and cons of Mitch Trubisky.
