Pros of Steelers signing Mitchell Trubisky

Not everything about Trubisky is bad; he has specific qualities that would make you think that if he improved from his stay in Buffalo, perhaps the Steelers could get lucky with Trubisky as the quarterback.

Despite all of the negative perceptions around Trubisky, if he pans out, then perhaps the Steelers can extend his contract and take some time to find the next franchise quarterback. If not he’s only on a two-year deal. As Dale Lolly and Matt Williamson said on their podcast, maybe, the Steelers are trying to catch lightning in a bottle. That’s probably a fair assessment.

Let’s look at the benefits of signing Trubisky. He is only 27, and the Steelers did not have to burn draft capital to land him. While the Bears may have been a bad team when he played for them, he did finish with a 29-21 record. He has had a winning record in every season he played with the bears except his rookie season.

Many looking at the upside of the Trubisky deal point out like Matt and Dale, Danny Kanell, or others that perhaps Trubisky taking time to sit on the bench, learn from watching Josh Allen may work to his benefit. He has taken a step back to learn how to improve his technique or other flaws. Thus he is now ready for a shot at redemption.
