Kevin Dotson, Guard

Kevin Dotson is a fan favorite and many hope that he breaks out this season. He is a solid guard when healthy, but he has not been able to stay on the field. That will be his biggest obstacle to overcome before he is a solid player in the NFL.

There will be competition for his spot in the starting lineup. Mason Cole was brought in and many immediately thought that he would challenge Kendrick Green for the starting center position but that may not be the case. Cole has the flexibility and experience to play either center or guard for this club.

Competition will help determine which player starts at what spot and who slides into a depth role on gamedays. Dotson has the experience, but he seems to be losing the favor of the coaching staff as well. Another thing working against him is the lack of position flexibility that he does not bring with his game.

Both Green and Cole can provide starting snaps at either interior position across the offensive trenches. Dotson needs to re-prove himself to the coaching staff and try his best to stay healthy. Sometimes health is a fluke thing but a player’s best trait is always their availability on a football field.
