Mason Rudolph, Quarterback

Mason Rudolph might be having the toughest time during all of this. Just a couple of weeks ago the team seemed to be trying to make it look like this player had an actual shot at being the club’s starting quarterback. That will probably not happen after the Steelers signed Mitch Trubisky in free agency.

It will be a competition for the starting spot, but Trubisky has the tools and experience over Rudolph. Not only does he have better traits, but he will also pose as a better fit into Matt Canada’s offense as well. It will be a huge hurdle for this backup signal-caller to overcome if he has any hope of becoming the starter on day one.

Another potential roadblock that is still to come, is the NFL draft in about another month. There could always be another quarterback entering the room before the offseason is tied up with a bow. That would spell disaster for Rudolph and some other quarterbacks on this roster.

He would need to fight for a roster spot at that point and not even have a chance for the starting job. Both the rookie and Trubisky would be the two getting the looks with the first team at practice. That would shake up the roster if a rookie quarterback was brought onto this team in the first round of the draft.

The Steelers were able to strengthen their roster thus far in the offseason. They were very aggressive in free agency and these players could be gone from the club sooner rather than later.
