Steelers could sign Jamison Crowder

While he has never earned a 1,000-yard season in his first seven years in the NFL, I think Jamison Crowder is one of the most underappreciated slot receivers in the league. This probably has a lot to do with the two unspectacular franchises he has played for.

Crowder began his career on an underwhelming Washington offense, before joining the New York Jets in 2019. Though he has never had elite production, he’s been a reliable receiving option for his quarterbacks over the middle and one of the better slot receivers in the NFL.

Listed at 5’9” and 177 pounds, Crowder would be limited to playing slot-only for the Steelers, but with some quality young receivers already on the outside in Johnson and Claypool, Pittsburgh wouldn’t ask him to do that much more than this on offense anyway. It would also give them the flexibility to target a number of different receivers in the 2022 NFL Draft — not just guys who project as slot receivers at the next level.

Like Landry, Crowder isn’t a long-term solution at wide receiver, but he would give this team a veteran presence in the locker room. He also brings experience as a punt returner.
