Steelers won’t draft EDGE David Ojabo

Obviously, edge defender was never very high on Pittsburgh’s draft radar, to begin with (at least many assumed). But while we might not have seen it as a major need, this is a position the Steelers clearly value more than most teams.

Because of this, Colbert has selected an edge defender in the first round three times since 2013. Two of those players (Bud Dupree and Jarvis Jones) are not with the organization. While I’m a fan of Alex Highsmith, this has always been one of the most highly-valued positions on the team in Colbert’s mind and he’s not opposed to an upgrade.

Sadly, the only player who I would have thought would have been a perfect pairing with T.J. Watt is completely off the board now. Michigan pass rusher David Ojabo has some electrifying traits with his combination of size, speed, and bend around the edge. However, he’s now off the map after suffering an Achilles tear during his Pro Day workout.

I think Ojabo would have offered very good value at an important position if he was still on the board at pick 20, but we know, historically, that the Steelers do not like to mess with players in the NFL Draft who are dealing with major injuries. He’s off their board.
