Did the Steelers throw Mason Rudolph under the bus by signing Trubisky?
So is Rudolph capable of leading the Steelers or not?
So, according to Foster, Rudolph will get to showcase his talent, and he thinks that could get Rudolph a trade package. Yet he’s also saying it never would be a true competition, and Trubisky has to lose it to Rudolph. While Clark thinks Trubisky’s signing was pure genius. So let’s say for the sake of argument, the job is Trubisky’s to lose. Well, how bad does he have to play to lose out to Rudolph?
Let’s take this one step further, too. If you think trading Rudolph would be fair so he can try to win a starting position, then what if Trubisky falters along the way? Then you are down to Haskins, and who’s behind him? If Trubisky is injured or is the same old Mitch from Chicago and you trade away Mason, perhaps Haskins could step in. While he might prove adequate, he has not yet proven himself capable of leading the squad as the starter yet.
Which almost makes you think the Steelers will acquire one additional quarterback. It is, more than likely, a draft pick; although they could bring in one additional free agent, it would be someone on the lower end. However, the only other option is a draft selection. That may not be good news for Rudolph if that is the case.
