Steelers could for Edwards

Of all of the names on this list, this is one that the Steelers could potentially get aggressive for. Mike Edwards has been a valuable role player and rotational safety for the Buccaneers since being drafted there, but entering the final year of his rookie deal, he could be dealt. While he has never played more than 60 percent of the defensive snaps, Edwards has been a quality coverage and run-stopping safety.

It appeared as though Edwards was finally going to start this offseason after Jordan Whitehead signed with the Jets. That plan quickly changed after Logan Ryan was added. While the Buccaneers could certainly keep Edwards around, he should also be a valuable trade chip for the team right now. If he is made available, the Steelers should come calling.

Edwards does everything you want in a strong safety. He hits hard and is better in coverage than even Edmunds was. The biggest issue is that he is in the final year of his rookie deal. The team would want to lock him up for a few seasons if they added him to ensure he isn’t just a one-year rental. That said, adding a player of Edwards caliber to start at strong safety would be quite the get.
