The Steelers should trade Chase Claypool before the season starts, here are three reasons why this would benefit the team.

This right here, the infamous first-down point. That’s reason number one.

We all witnessed last year, during what could have been the game-winning drive of the Vikings game, the epitome of Chase Claypool’s immaturity. After converting a late-game first down, Claypool did his annoying first down point and wasted precious seconds off the clock.

Now, we need to be honest here, the Steelers should have put themselves in a better position to win the game. But the fact is they were pushing for a quick score and Claypool caused frustration for the team and fans alike.

Steelers could go without Claypool’s immaturity

Claypool caught a lot of heat for celebrating a first down at an inappropriate time, and rightly so. This incident showed Pittsburgh fans that he lacked situational awareness. After watching this unfold, I had doubts about Claypool’s mindset during games. And despite his physicality and talent, if he’s not aware of game-time situations then he should be on the trading block.

Now, it’s still to be seen if he grew from that situation, but as a fan, I hope he did. Claypool has the size and talent to be a great wide receiver. But as Bob Labriola explained last season, Claypool has a “diva quotient.”

The diva description makes a lot of sense when we look back at the fight that broke out during practice between Claypool and Minkah Fitzpatrick. These two incidents alone should be reason enough for the Steelers to begin shopping Claypool around.
