Steelers must improve linebacker

I think some fans are vastly overrating how good Myles Jack is at this point in his NFL career. He was the offseason signing that everyone seemed to be going crazy over.

While it’s possible that Jack could have a bounce-back season with a better Pittsburgh defense in 2022, it didn’t exactly work out for Joe Schobert coming from the exact same situation in Jacksonville.

Additionally, Devin Bush was among the worst starting linebackers in the NFL last season, as he was a liability against but the run and the pass. In terms of depth, the Steelers are bringing back an unspectacular linebacker in Robert Spillane, while their young depth hasn’t been impressive enough to earn a role on defense.

It seems very likely that Pittsburgh could address off-ball linebacker in the 2022 NFL Draft, and this may not be a bad idea. I don’t view Jack as anything more than a stop-gap player, while the clock is ticking for Bush. Landing a linebacker on day two could be an investment that pans out for Pittsburgh in the long run.
