The Pittsburgh Steelers are likely going to select a QB early in the NFL Draft. Here’s why Matt Corral is the best option to lead their team moving forward.

I’ve said from the beginning that I am not a fan of taking a quarterback early in the 2022 NFL Draft. This is not a particularly strong group of quarterbacks, and this is one position that teams should never settle on out of necessity.

Sadly, it looks like the Pittsburgh Steelers are going to be selecting a QB in round one despite how we may feel. While many fans are hoping Kevin Colbert trades up for Malik Willis or even Kenny Pickett, I think that Matt Corral is truly the best QB option for the Steelers in the NFL Draft. Here are three reasons why:

Corral fits Matt Canada’s offense

What we saw last year was not Matt Canada’s offense. It had been dulled down immensely to accommodate for Pittsburgh’s 39-year-old quarterback who wasn’t a fan of play-action or pre-snap motion. However, I believe Canada intends to deploy his full playbook moving forward and I think that Matt Corral is the perfect fit as the signal-caller.

Corral was already used to running a creative RPO-style offense under Ole Miss head coach, Lane Kiffin. This offense constantly saw movement before the snap and heavy play-action. Corral ran it beautifully.

With a lightning-fast release, great velocity, and pinpoint accuracy in the short and intermediate game, Corral will be able to step in early in his NFL career and run the extent of Canada’s play-book. The combination of his live arm, quick feet, and over traits make him a perfect fit for the Steelers.
