Steelers missed on Jones

The need for a quality backup running back for the Steelers seems to be making some more waves as of late. While there is no question who the starter is for this team, there are major question marks at the backup spot. No name on the roster as of now should be counted on to shoulder the load for this team long term if Harris were to go down with an injury.

A name like Ronald Jones would have made a lot of sense for the Steelers. While a bust as a former second-round pick, Jones is a fastback who compliments a power back well. He can take over for a drive or two a game and provide some burst whenever the lead back needs to rest. If forced into a starting role due to injury, he would do far better than any of the team’s current backups would do.

Jones only cost the Chiefs 1.5 million dollars. That is beyond fair for a player of his caliber, as he can easily handle the role of starter or change of pace back in a pinch. For the cost and what he provides, the team missed out by not bringing him in. The Steelers have to hope that Harris stays healthy, as he figures to be an integral part of this offense and has no clear replacement if he were to be lost with an injury.
