How the Steelers are affected by Haskins passing?

As we have all known, to the chagrin of fans who did not savor the prospect, the Steelers have the Matt Corrall, Kenny Pickett, Malik Willis, Desmond Ridder, and Sam Howell on their draft board. Why? In short, Kevin Colbert said they planned on taking four quarterbacks into training camp. Considering they had not signed another free agent quarterback, that increased the likelihood of them drafting one of the top quarterback draft prospects.

Even if, in the end, other teams raided the potential quarterback options in the draft, the Steelers had a backup plan, including drafting Nkobe Dean, Jameson Williams, Devonte Wyatt, Andrew Booth Jr., Kyle Hamilton, Daxton Hill, or Lewis Cine.

Signing free agents while fixing the team’s needs lessening the need to use the draft. Thus, the notion of trading up was an option, not a necessity. Needless to say, Pittsburgh at least had options. All of that now has seemingly changed.

Whereas Haskins would have competed to win the starting role in training camp against Trubisky and Rudolph, much has changed in the last several hours. Instead of four quarterbacks headed into camp, they now only have two, the presumed starter Mitch Trubisky and backup Mason Rudolph.

Adding insult to injury, former Steelers backup quarterback Joshua Dobbs signed a contract with Cleveland only a few days before. One would have to suspect any draft plans they had certainly flew out the window with this morning’s heartwrenching news.

What quarterback options do the Steelers have going forward?
