The Steelers quarterback options

Where Pittsburgh goes from here is anyone’s guess at this point. Sure, there are 20 days to the draft, leaving them some time to figure a path forward; what that looks like is uncertain at best. The black and gold could opt for another free agent, though teams have now signed most of the potential options leaving Ryan Fitzpatrick, Cam Newton, Geno Smith, and Josh Rosen, as the only realistic free-agent options.

The other option would be to scrap taking a quarterback in the draft and trade for Baker Mayfield at this point. Yes, it is an option that could work; however, that scenario works out better if the Browns were to cut Mayfield first so they would not have to assume his salary for 2020.

If those options are not palatable, then the draft is the only other alternative to finding a quarterback. Instead of waiting for pick number 20 to come along, you trade up and take the quarterback you have ranked highest on the board.

Right now, we can only suspect the player Pittsburgh ranks highest is Malik Willis; however, Corral or Pickett could factor high too. Corral, Willis, and Pickett, if they are Pittsburgh’s top three choices, would almost mandate a trade-up, as they are the most likely to come off the board before selection 20.
