3 NFL Draft prospects who could force Steelers to ignore QB
By Tommy Jaggi
Steelers would consider S Kyle Hamilton
Safety has become somewhat of a devalued position in today’s NFL — largely because of the quick passing game. However, prospects like Kyle Hamilton don’t come around every day. For the past two years, many NFL Draft analysts who scouted ahead believed that Hamilton could be a top-five pick in the NFL Draft (and he still very well could).
However, there’s also an off chance that he slides down draft boards prior to the 2022 NFL Draft. Hamilton is a rangy player with great instincts and very few holes in his game. However, he ran just a 4.59 40-yard dash at the NFL Combine. When he tried to improve this number at his Pro Day, he clocked in at 4.70.
This lack of top-end teams could scare away the teams who originally considered drafting him very high — especially if they choose to target more valuable positions.
For the Steelers, having Kyle Hamilton roaming the field alongside Minkah Fitzpatrick is a dream scenario. Pittsburgh rarely is in a position to draft a player of Hamilton’s caliber, and they should take advantage if he happens to be on the board at pick 20.
With five quarterbacks all in the same range, the Steelers might be wise to take one of these three elite prospects if they somehow slip in the 2022 NFL Draft. They can always move back up for a QB or wait until 2023 to take one.
