Steelers mock draft round 2: WR George Pickens
I have frequently mocked George Pickens to the Pittsburgh Steelers this offseason –largely because I know how much interest Mike Tomlin would have in selecting him if he fell to the 52nd overall pick. However, it’s entirely possible (perhaps even likely) that he’s gone by this point in the draft.
Still, the interest in Pickens is undeniable. The Steelers had six personnel members on hand at Georgia’s Pro Day on March 16th — including Mike Tomlin and Kevin Colbert. They even had wide receiver coach Frisman Jackson working out Pickens.
The Steelers have a clear need at the wide receiver position after losing JuJu Smith-Schuster, James Washington, and Ray-Ray McCloud to free agency this offseason. Currently, Diontae Johnson and Chase Claypool are the only viable options on the team.
Pittsburgh could also consider a small-school wide receiver like Skyy Moore in the second round, but some believe that he could go even higher than Pickens. I really believe that the Steelers will target a WR on day two (as they normally do), and Pickens will be the guy if he’s available.
