Steelers need to skip these 5 potential busts of the 2022 NFL Draft
Derek Stingley Jr. is injured too much for the franchise to gamble on
Derek Stingley Jr. is someone that has seen his draft stock start to tip in the downward direction. He has been one of the best cornerbacks in college football when healthy, but that has not been very often for him. His major issue during his collegiate career and heading into the draft is the question of his health.
He is coming off a Lisfranc injury and put up a nice workout during his pro day at LSU. He seems ready to go on day one for whichever team drafts him. We know the Steelers were on hand to watch his pro day and they could use some extra talent in the cornerback room.
The injury concerns are very difficult to look past as he only played a full season during his freshman year. That means he has been injured at certain points over the last two seasons, so the curiosity of him lasting a full season, plus the playoffs in the NFL is very real. This reason could make him slip on night one of the draft and it could make him a possibility at 20.
There are just too many concerns with this player that is not worth investing your first-round choice. He is a very talented player when healthy, but he won’t do your team any good if he is in sweats on the sideline either. There are too many question marks about that and his lack of playing time because of those injury problems as well.
The Steelers need to focus on getting better in this draft, so they need to be smart. Focusing on players with limited red flags and great upside need to be the pick on night one.
