Steelers should consider C Tyler Linderbaum

I suppose if any team has a reason to be scared away from drafting a severely undersized center, it should be the Pittsburgh Steelers. So far, Kendrick Green — Pittsburgh’s third-round pick from 2021 — looks like an absolute bust.

Iowa’s Tyler Linderbaum is a significantly better center prospect but is still very small. At 6’2 1/8” and 296 pounds with just a 75 5/8” wingspan, Linderbaum is one of the smallest centers to enter the NFL since 1999, according to Mockdraftable’s database.

Regardless, it’s hard to fake his elite tape and brute strength he displays in the run game. Linderbaum is one of Pro Football Focus’s highest-graded center prospects ever, and many still think he’s one of the best centers to enter the NFL over the past decade.

Linderbaum could struggle to anchor at times against NFL power, but he would be an instant improvement over Kendrick Green and would make this offensive line immediately better. He’s somehow getting overlooked and he’s not on the Steelers radar at all, but he would be an outstanding pick in the first round for Pittsburgh.
