Steelers defensive prospect #10

The last of the threes on this list, Kyle Hamilton at one point in time seemed like a dream to become a Steelers pick. He was regularly seen as a top-five draft pick by most with the ability to become an elite safety in the league. Poor testing numbers and the general devaluation of safeties have caused his stock to fall though, and he appears to be on the team’s radar.

With Colbert attending his pro day as well as the team inviting him in for a pre-draft visit shows that the Steelers are at least intrigued. Perhaps they believe there is a chance he tumbles all the way to pick 20, or maybe they are even willing to move up for him if he falls far enough. That would make sense, as he is an absolute force as a safety despite the slower forty time.

He excels in zone coverage, can eliminate tight ends, and can play in the box and blitz. He is the perfect mold of a modern strong safety in today’s game. The question shouldn’t be would the Steelers take him, it’s will he even fall that far. If he gets within close distance of pick 20, don’t be surprised to see the Steelers act on their desire for Hamilton.
