The 25 most likely Steelers defensive targets in 2022 draft
By Andrew Falce
Steelers defensive prospect #20
Another limited defensive prospect with special teams ability, Nolan Turner is yet another Clemson defender to make this list. Despite being an average defender in school, he tested good enough as an athlete to potentially carve out a niche backup role for a defense. As well, he should be a solid special teams player due to his knowledge of the game.
Turner has more defensive ability than Skalski does due to his prototypical size and decent athleticism. That said, his initial role with a team will be centered on special teams. As well, given his lack of coverage skills, Turner could play a hybrid safety/linebacker role long term for a defense in a reserve role.
While a better prospect than Skalski, the role of either of these names if drafted would essentially be the same. They would be brought in for their ability on special teams first. Any defensive contribution would be a bonus. Turner has some athleticism to build off of, but he will be a late-round pick at best due to his potential ability on special teams.
