5 best NFL Draft prospects the Steelers have shown interest in
By Tommy Jaggi
4. WR Jameson Williams, Alabama
Anytime the Steelers attend a major Pro Day like Alabama’s, it’s not always easy to say they are targeting one particular player (as the program is just so talented). Last year was an exception, as Pittsburgh’s brass expressed clear and obvious interest in Najee Harris.
This year, Jameson Williams is at least on the map because of their Pro Day attendance. After suffering an ACL tear in the championship game, Williams obviously wasn’t able to work out at his Pro Day, but he’s projected to be ready early in the 2022 season.
The Steelers typically don’t take chances with injured players, but perhaps they would be willing to make an exception for the star Alabama WR if he fell to pick 20. Williams earned 1,572 receiving yards this year to go with 15 touchdowns and roughly 20 yards per catch. In addition to elite production as a junior, Williams has game-breaking speed to be one of the best deep threats at the next level.
Meanwhile, Pittsburgh desperately needs to get faster on offense, and they lost three wide receivers in free agency this offseason. Wide receiver will certainly be on the Steelers draft radar early, and a talent like Jameson Williams could be good enough to tempt them when they are on the clock.
