 Steelers edge defender Alex Highsmith

Alex Highsmith is the epitome of the “next man up” quote. He made his presence known in the 2020 season. But what really solidified his name on the Pittsburgh roster was his performance in the 2021 season. He was literally the next man up after Bud Dupree departed for the Tennessee Titans.

Playing opposite of TJ Watt, Highsmith recorded 6 sacks in 2021. Highsmith recorded 46 solo tackles as well. These numbers make a strong case for Highsmith to look for a contract extension when the time comes. He is a talented member of the defense and complements TJ Watt’s game very well.

Highsmith comes across as underrated because he lines up opposite the strong and mighty TJ Watt. The attention Watt receives from offensive linemen gives Highsmith the opportunity to capitalize on the lack of attention they give him. Highsmith will be entering his third year on the Pittsburgh roster. I think Steelers fans can expect another productive season from Alex Highsmith.
