Steelers round 3

I do have safety as a bigger need than a cornerback, but after the third round the cornerbacks really drop off. A name I think the Steelers have a lot of interest in is Cincinnati’s Coby Bryant. The first of two Bearcats to join this team, Bryant enjoyed a successful career across from potential top pick Ahmad Gardner.

While he was only the second-best cornerback for Cincinnati, I actually see that as a positive trait. Gardner, more often than not, was rarely targeted by opposing offenses. That meant that Bryant was forced to hold his own regularly against the top receiving threats. He did well, and his consistency and ability to play in both man and zone coverage should make him a capable starter down the road.

While Bryant’s athleticism will likely never lead to him being an elite cornerback, he has the makings of a quality starter for years to come assuming he develops as needed to the pro game. Bryant has the size and coverage skills to be a good starter. He seems like a safer pick in this draft, and he should be a starter for this team sooner than later.
