Steelers round 6

Though this is later than the team may want for a safety, the re-signing of Terrell Edmunds makes adding an earlier safety not a necessity. While the team will want to take a player to develop, they can easily play behind a steady and capable Edmunds for a season. Targeting traits over safety makes sense here.

Joey Blount was thrust into the Steelers spotlight after an incredible pro day. There, he showed off his elite athleticism that matches the positive traits he had on tape. Blount struggles in deep coverage, and the further he plays from the line of scrimmage the worse he is, but he has the makings of a potential box safety.

He thrives in the box, as he can use his athleticism to fill gaps and make plays in the backfield. Early on, he can serve as the third safety and play in the box as he harnesses his skills. He has some injury concerns, but this late in the draft the team could do much worse.

Blount has the potential to become a starter in a few years if he can develop well enough. At worse, he should be a good special teams player and some capable depth.
