Crimson Tide . John Metchie III. 2. player. 829. . Wide Receiver

In round two, I think it will be hard for the Steelers to pass on a wide receiver, as this class has so much talent at the position and the team has a need at the position as well. Two players who I think would really interest the Steelers are George Pickens out of Georgia and Skyy Moore out of Western Michigan, however, I believe both will be selected earlier in the second round, and thus won’t be available for the Steelers. The player I believe will be available and could be the selection for the Steelers is John Metchie III.

While he is coming off of a torn ACL, Metchie is reportedly progressing well from the injury and could be ready early in the season, or at least some point this season. He would be a nice fit in the Steelers’ offense as he would be the slot receiver, with both Diontae Johnson and Chase Claypool outside. Metchie was a teammate of Najee Harris at Alabama, and Harris would likely vouch for him if asked by Mike Tomlin.

Adding a talent like Metchie in the slot would provide either Trubisky or a rookie quarterback with three strong receivers, a promising young tight end, and a workhorse running back. While a wide receiver like Pickens would be a great selection, a player like Metchie fits the offense much better, after the team lost both Juju Smith-Schuster and Ray-Ray McCloud this offseason, and doesn’t have much experience in the slot on the roster to replace either of them.

If the team is comfortable with the injury and hears good things about his recovery, he would be a nice selection for Pittsburgh, he would fit perfectly in their offense due to his good hands and crisp route running out of the slot.
