Pittsburgh Steelers: 3 dream scenarios in 1st round of draft
By Andrew Falce
With the NFL draft finally upon us, here are three dream scenarios for the Steelers first round of the draft.
Boards are just about set, and the NFL is ready for a weekend of draft picks to be made. While the bulk of the draft is vital for a team to build a complete roster, the first round is where you can get some of the stars of the league. The Steelers seem to have a good idea of where they want to go with their top pick, but that said, other teams can easily derail their plans.
Here are three dream scenarios for the Steelers in the first round of the draft.
Steelers dream scenario #1
All of the quarterbacks fall to pick 20
Let me be clear, by all accounts you should be ready for the Steelers to take their quarterback of the future in this draft class. No matter what you or I think of this class as a whole, the team has done their homework on the top six quarterbacks and anyone that follows the team knows that smoke screens are not a real thing with this team when it comes to draft interest.
While some will dismiss taking a quarterback as a bad thing entirely, the worst-case scenario is the team trading up for the second or third best quarterback and giving up draft capital as a result. Instead, what if all of the quarterbacks fall to pick 20 instead? It would be a rare feat, but in a draft so saturated with top defensive talent and most of these quarterbacks being graded similarly, perhaps the group as a whole falls.
This would mean the team could take whoever their guy is at pick 20 without having to give up additional resources to land that guy. I personally believe that the pick would be Malik Willis, as the team has shown the most interest in the Liberty product, but I wouldn’t be surprised with any of the top names to be the pick. If this group takes a draft slide, it would benefit the Steelers greatly.
