Steelers mock draft round 2: WR George Pickens

George Pickens has been linked to the Steelers many times throughout the offseason and it’s not hard to see why. Mike Tomlin and Kevin Colbert brought their top personnel members to Georgia’s Pro Day this offseason, and WR coach, Frisman Jackson, put Pickens through drills.

At 6’3 1/4” and 195 pounds, Pickens offers a very good catch radius and quality speed (4.47) at the wide receiver position. The former five-star recruit impressed as a freshman in 2019 as he flashed some phenomenal play-making ability at the catch point. Sadly, an ACL tear derailed his junior season in 2021.

For the Steelers, Pickens could immediately slide into a sizable role ahead of Miles Boykin as the team’s third receiver, and he has the ability to play either ‘X’ or ‘Z’ position in the NFL.

Pickens is an excellent talent and would be of incredible value at this point. It sounds like some teams are worried about character and maturity, but Pittsburgh has a massive need at wide receiver and they have shown plenty of interest in Pickens this offseason.
