Draft Day is finally here, and with the Steelers now having made their first-round selection, Twitter is exploding with reactions.
As expected, the Steelers spent their first-round selection on a quarterback in this year’s NFL Draft, and it should come as no surprise that it sparked a Twitter frenzy. Ultimately the team decided to select Kenny Pickett as the next face of their franchise. While some people wanted a different quarterback, some people wanted a different position, and some are happy with the selection that the team made, Twitter has received a flurry of vastly different opinions on the selection.
Mike Tomlin and Kevin Colbert spent the entire offseason scouring across the country for their next franchise quarterback, and ultimately they decided Pickett was their guy. While some wanted Malik Willis, and others wanted Desmond Ridder, it is the Pitt product that will be under center at Heinz Field.
Much of Twitter is impressed with the Pickett selection, as he quickly began trending on Twitter, shortly after the Steelers selected him. Whether it is Andrew Fillipponi saying “the Steelers will go to a Super Bowl again,” or videos of bars in Pittsburgh erupting when he was selected, it’s clear that many are happy that the team stayed home with their quarterback.
But others don’t like passing on Willis and his immense upside for the older Pickett. While Willis was heavily linked to the Steelers, the team got their pick of the litter at quarterback, and with Pickett as the pick, it is undeniable that he was the top option on their board.
Only time will tell whether the pick was the right one or not, but one thing’s for sure, while it may have come as a surprise to much of the public, yinzers seem to be excited to have their new franchise quarterback
