Two main holes on the defensive side of the ball right now and they both concern depth

We should start off with the defensive backfield. Ignoring the impending need at Safety thanks to Terrell Edmunds signing a 1-year deal, depth is still needed. Tre Norwood makes the situation a little better. Norwood showed enough versatility to be used as a safety or a nickel corner.

That means the Steelers can target the best player available between the two positions to maximize the amount of talent as a depth player. If the Steelers prefer extra versatility they can grab another defensive back like Norwood who has spent time in both positions. I’d think the Steelers look more towards a safety if they think they can get someone who can compete for the starting job next season.

The other hole on the defense is depth behind the best player on the team

T.J Watt is the best player on the team and one of the best players in the league. His running mate Alex Highsmith is pretty good himself. However, a quality depth piece on the edge could absolutely be used here. You can never have enough guys who can get after the quarterback.

We saw the difference in our defense last season while T.J. Watt was injured. There isn’t another player in the league who could fill in for Watt without there being a noticeable difference. However, they need to reduce the drop-off between the top two edge rushers on the team and the rest of the guys in that position group.
