5 players Steelers must select in the third day of the draft
By Andrew Falce
With the first two rounds wrapped up of the NFL draft, here are the day three picks that make the most sense for the Steelers.
The first two days of the Steelers draft found them getting quite the haul. They landed their franchise quarterback in the first round and added a competent receiver and a talented defensive lineman in the draft.
Day three is upon us and this team still has needs that must be filled. Here are the five best day-three fits for the Steelers in the 2022 NFL Draft;
Steelers best fit #5
A name I am mildly surprised to see fall this far, Minnesota’s Daniel Faalele is a mountain of a man that is still learning the tackle position. He weighs in at a monstrous 6’8, 385 pounds and uses his size to generate a lot of push in run blocking. Faalele is hard to get around given his immense length and size. If he gets his hands on you, he more often than not will power you into the ground.
The issue with him is still his size. While he moves well enough for a player his size, he will need to shed weight at the next level. He is simply too big to last as an offensive lineman in this league. Add in his raw mechanics and overall reliance on his size to win (something pass rushers exploit), and he needs some work at the next level.
That all said, most see him as a potential starting right tackle if he can correct his issues. Landing a player like that on day three is worth the risk. Add in the Steelers offensive line coach being present at the Minnesota pro day and there is obvious interest here. He would make sense for the team somewhere on day three.
