Cleveland Browns: Cade York, PK, LSU

Earlier I had criticized the Ravens for not knowing what to do with all of their draft picks. Well if that could be said about them, it could certainly be said about the Browns, and they proved it by taking a kicker in the fourth round.

Similarly with taking a punter halfway through the draft, making a point to snatch a kicker so early will almost always result in an overflow of eye-rolls. However, it’s not the end of the world when considering who all else Cleveland managed to land.

The Browns really needed to focus on building up some wide receiver depth, and they still ended up getting a pair of talented ones for new quarterback Deshaun Watson. Beyond that, they got a couple more offensive pieces and several defensive playmakers.

This all goes without mentioning that Cade York is a good kicker with a nice leg and that the goal here is not to criticize him in any way. Rather, it’s just that the combination of his position and how early the move was made is a lot to take in without questioning the thought process behind it happening in the first place.
