The Browns are getting a better grade than the Bengals

The Browns tackled most of their needs in this draft class. They were able to get a 3rd wide receiver in David Bell, who I think will start in the slot right away, along with adding depth all over the roster. Their first pick Martin Emerson could end up pushing for snaps as well even though the cornerback room seemed pretty set in stone prior to the draft.

The Browns were limited in draft capital after making the trade for Deshaun Watson. While some could say Deshaun Watson already makes the Browns winners on draft day, an impending suspension and us not knowing when he will actually suit up for the Browns seems to cancel that out.

In the meantime, even with limited ammunition, the Browns filled their lineup with some quality depth guys. This draft class likely won’t be as impactful as I really only see two players starting this year. Those two players are David Bell and placekicker Cade York.

Something that hurts this class for me is the drafting of Jerome Ford (RB) from Cincinnati. They got good talent in the 5th round however I would have liked to see them target another position. The Browns already have three great runners in the backfield with Nick Chubb, Kareem Hunt, and D’Ernest Johnson.

They could’ve taken a swing at a versatile depth piece in the secondary like Quentin Lake, who would be drafted in the 6th round by the Rams. They could’ve looked for a physical specimen on the edge to round out their rotation. If everyone in the backfield stays healthy Ford won’t even get a helmet on gameday.

I liked the other picks in this class to add depth to other positions and they managed to find 2 likely starters for this year without a first or second-round pick. I give them a “B.”
