3 takeaways from the Steelers bold 2022 draft choices
Steelers addition of Demarvin Leal might be to replace Stephon Tuitt
The Steelers performed well defensively in 2021, at least so, to get to the playoffs, and T.J. Watt tied the single-season sack record. That said, they were atrocious at stopping the opponent’s rushing game. However, they did play the entire season without Stephon Tuitt.
Indeed, he could have been quite helpful to the Steelers but missed the season to a knee injury when Pittsburgh placed him on injured reserve on September 1, 2021. Typically by early spring, most teams can provide an update on how well the player’s rehab is coming and a possible time frame for the player’s return. However, every time the media asks, the Steelers, especially Mike Tomlin, seem very vague on specifics.
In part, after his knee injury, Stephon Tuitt lost his brother, which has affected him quite deeply and has not helped him being able to get back to the football field. Plus, there were rumors that his house was up for sale, signifying he planned to end his career with the Steelers.
An online article through Sports Illustrated hinted at Tuitt’s planned return. Nevertheless, the Tribune, following the draft, reported there was still no definitive timetable. It leads one to postulate whether Tuitt’s career may be over. However, if he does return, one would think that Tysons Alualu is on thin ice career-wise with Leal’s addition.
