Games the Steelers won scoring all their points in the 3rd quarter
Whereas Pittsburgh has successfully won, scoring all of their points in the 2nd quarter eight times, the feat has not occurred as often in the third quarter. Despite not scoring in the first half in many of their 2021 games, yet having 2nd half comebacks.
In all, the Steelers have only done it four times between 1940 and 2000 and twice in the 70s, once in 1976 and once in 1977. In 1976 they knocked off, once again, the Bengals 7-3, with Franco Harris scoring the Steelers lone touchdown in the third quarter. In 1977 the Steelers amassed their points from a Sidney Thornton touchdown and Roy Gerela field goal, beating the Chargers 10-9 as the chargers were held scoreless in the second half
In 1940 they had another 7-3 victory over the Philadelphia Eagles thanks to the efforts of Steelers running back Coley McDonough, scoring the lone touchdown.
Now the last time it occurred was in 2000 against the Baltimore Ravens. Not surprising in any manner; the Steelers and Ravens always tend to have low-scoring affairs. However, oddly enough, the Ravens scored all their points in the first half second quarter, amounting to two Matt Stover field goals.
In the 3rd quarter, Kordell struck Hines Ward for a 45-yard touchdown strike. However, missing the ensuing extra point, Kris Brown hit another field goal late in the 3rd quarter giving the steelers a 9-6 lead which they held on to through the 4th quarter.
Let’s look at the 4th quarter
