Pittsburgh fans seemed mostly pleased with the NFL Draft results, but these five Steelers players have to be rejoicing that their roles weren’t replaced.

I can’t complain about the results of the 2022 NFL Draft for the Pittsburgh Steelers. While I wasn’t crazy about taking Kenny Pickett in the first round, I think Kevin Colbert got terrific value on the three selections that ensued.

While fans might be raving about the new era in Pittsburgh, their excitement is nothing compared to players who were no doubt breathing a sigh of relief after the results of the draft were finalized. These five Steelers dodged a bullet for at least another year:

Steelers OT Dan Moore Jr.

I think Dan Moore Jr. shows some promise thanks to his prototype length and athletic traits. However, his inconsistent and mostly poor play as a rookie has shown me that he would really benefit by being the swing tackle — at last for the time being.

As they usually do in the NFL Draft, the Steelers ignored the offensive tackle position. There were four premier offensive tackles in the 2022 draft, but fortunately for Moore, all of them were gone before Pittsburgh picked at 20, and there was never any doubt Pittsburgh was going with a quarterback all along.

What should really have Moore excited is that the team didn’t take a single offensive lineman of any kind during the NFL Draft. This will secure his role as the starter for at least one more season. He will get another chance to prove himself in 2022.
