Predicting the Pittsburgh Steelers final 53-man roster for the 2022 Season
Specialists (4)
Chris Boswell, Pressley Harvin III, Christian Kuntz, Gunner Olszewski
Chris Boswell returns for his 8th season. Despite one rough season in 2018, he is one of the best and most reliable placekickers the Steelers have ever had and the only one to have truly mastered kicking at Heinz Field.
Pressly Harvin made his debut in 2021. He had a great pre-season booming a few punts. Then partway through the season, his father died, and he ended up missing a few games, and he did not seem as crisp as he was in the pre-season. That was last year, though. He should play an entire season in 2022 and be more focused. He should rebound and have a great season punting
The Steelers never carry more than one long snapper in any season which should continue this year. While they have two on the roster, expect Christian Kuntz to make the final cut.
Gunner Olszewski’s inclusion as a specialist needs a little explanation. He is a wide receiver and should not have a listing within the specialist category. However, Pittsburgh will rarely use Olszewski as a wide receiver, no matter how many gadget plays Matt Canada draws up. He will almost exclusively return punts or kickoffs. So he is essentially a kick returner, and handling those duties allows the Steelers to keep an extra wideout on their roster.
While this may not be 100 percent accurate, this should be very close to the Steelers final 53-man roster this fall. Mike Tomlin undoubtedly will have many hard choices when making his cuts, although he may have a few easy ones if a few players perform poorly, as there is always one. However, with all the competition in training camp, it should be an exciting pre-season for fans this year.
