Austin hasn’t played a down yet for the Steelers but he is my 3rd best fantasy option in black and gold

Calvin Austin III is likely going to be one of the most exciting players to watch on the new-look Steelers. His insane speed is well documented and he can be used in Jet Sweeps, screen passes, in the slot, at the X position, and even in the return game.

Austin is likely going to be more of a gadget player and returner for the Steelers in his first year, however, that helps his fantasy value in Matt Canada’s offense. We saw Ray-Ray McCloud garner 68 targets in 2021 in a variety of different areas. The difference between them in speed and ability to make defenders miss is extreme.

Austin could be the most dangerous return man Pittsburgh has had in years as well. He brings the value of possibly scoring a few touchdowns this year on special teams which is something none of the other receivers on this roster have.

I’m not saying Austin should be a starter every week. Especially early in the season as the offense is getting acclimated to all of the moving parts. However, Austin is a great late-round in 10-12 man leagues. You may even see him go undrafted. If you can grab him for cheap and stash him on the bench it could play dividends 3/4 of the way through the year.
