The Steelers had a busy offseason, and while moving on from players isn’t easy, the team was wise to part ways with these five options.

The Steelers are just about done with the majority of their offseason moves, and they have constructed a very new-looking roster through this process. The team saw quite a few veterans depart through free agency, and while some of them left you lamenting their loss, others made a lot of sense. Here are the five players that the Steelers were right to move on from in 2022.

Steelers OG Trai Turner

The Steelers added Trai Turner in what can only be described as a desperate move late in the offseason. David DeCastro was cut due to some lingering injuries and the team was without a capable guard on the roster. Turner was added shortly afterward. He was thrown right into the starting lineup from the moment he was signed.

The team was likely hoping they would get the former pro-bowler from the Panthers as opposed to the injured and lacking option that the Chargers fielded. The final results were ultimately mixed. Some weeks, Turner was the unquestionable top lineman on this team, and other weeks he looked like an aging veteran whose best years were behind him.

That all said, it was a pleasant surprise to see the team upgrade over Turner as opposed to just bringing him back. The Steelers added James Daniels in free agency, and he is the far superior and younger option over Turner. The team didn’t have to move on from him, but doing so while also upgrading the position is ultimately a big win.
