The Steelers will have some tough decisions to make and these players could be on the chopping block.

The Pittsburgh Steelers enter this year without many expectations yet again. They have been to the playoffs in back-to-back seasons prior to their embarkation into 2022. It will be a wild ride that could see many different faces that have become familiar to some fans being gone.

Players have retired or gone onto other teams this past offseason, so a lot of work has been done. This roster is very different compared to what they were when they lost to the Kansas City Chiefs in the Wild Card game. They have new starters and fresh faces entering the fold that brings along a new era of Steelers football.

The pre-season is always an exciting time as football is starting to come back. Games start being played and the smack of the pads will echo in Latrobe once more. With the pre-season comes roster moves that will ultimately see players have their careers in Pittsburgh end as new talent joins the fold.

Derek Watt could be replaced by Connor Heyward

Derek Watt is a high cap hit, especially for a fullback in today’s NFL. He does not have much of a role on offense, but he has become one of the best special team players on the team since joining the black and gold. Pittsburgh drafted Connor Heyward in the sixth round, and we will see two siblings of different defensive stars battle in camp.

Heyward has the versatility to play tight end, some running back, and special teams as well as fullback. That is already putting Watt behind the eight-ball, but the team could always keep both depending on how the roster shakes out. Both play similar roles and that could lead to Watt being cut if the rookie beats him out.
