With most of the Steelers offseason wrapped up, here are the five Steelers in the worst position on the team after the draft.
The Steelers had an eventful offseason, as they brought in a slew of new faces both through free agency and in the draft. Some of the players from last season are now in a tough spot even though they are still on their rookie deals.
While not all of these players are fighting for a roster spot, all are in tougher positions now than where they were before the draft. Here are the five young Steelers in the worst positions after the draft.
Steelers McFarland
Anthony McFarland was added with the hope that he would become a dynamic change of pace back for this offense. Added in a year where the running back room wasn’t set, McFarland actually saw some action as a rookie and looked promising. Even after adding Najee Harris last season, there was hope that McFarland could spell him and provide a speedy option to back him up.
That never materialized though, and McFarland struggled to see the field last season. Worse yet, he offers next to no special teams value, further slimming the odds that he makes this final roster this season. McFarland has almost no stats to warrant him making the roster and no value on special teams to keep him around.
The only saving grace he has is that the team has made no significant investment in the running back room this offseason. While I could see an undrafted free agent like Mataeo Durant making a push due to his speed, McFarland should have the early advantage. That said, things don’t look great for the former fourth-round pick.
