Steelers could sign Rhodes

One of the more slept-on needs on the Steelers roster currently is at cornerback. While the team has a trio of young and seemingly average starters, they are lacking a defined top name to cover a team’s top receiver. Still a free agent, the team would do well by adding veteran Xavier Rhodes to this roster and allowing him to push for a starting job.

Rhodes appeared to be on a decline during his last few years with the Vikings. Injuries were mounting and his play was slipping a little. He had a minor career resurgence with the Colts though, and he was a valuable starter over the past two seasons there. While his future in the NFL is beginning to fade given his age, he could still put together a decent season as a starter.

As well, this would give the Steelers four capable starters, with Rhodes being the veteran presence that this group may need. While a little old for a cornerback, his consistent play over the past two seasons is reassuring. He would be a savvy addition to a room that needs some more experience and talent overall.

While the Steelers have done a good job of revamping this roster, they could still use some more talent as a whole. These four players are all currently free agents, but if the team signed them, they would likely compete for a starting role. Keep them in mind as the team gets closer and closer to camp.
